O Whatsapp provou que não precisa de games para fazer sucesso. Segundo o presidente-executivo Jan Koum, o mensageiro alcançou a marca de 430 milhões de usuários no mundo todo, 30 milhões deles conquistados desde dezembro de 2013. Mas embora seja líder no Brasil, o app está atrás do chinês WeChat, com mais de 1 bilhão de usuários.
Segundo Koum, não disponibilizar games na plataforma não é uma fraqueza e sim uma estratégia do aplicativo para enfrentar a concorrência de diversos serviços como Line, KakaoTalk e o próprio WeChat. O executivo compara os games com anúncios publicitários (dos quais o Whatsapp também está livre), artifícios que, segundo ele, comprometem a credibilidade da plataforma.
“Queremos nos focar apenas nas mensagens. Se as pessoas querem jogar games, há uma grande quantidade de outros sites, e também grandes companhias desenvolvendo serviços em torno de anúncios”, afirmou Koum.
Mesmo sem anuncios ou games, vale lembrar que após o primeiro ano de uso, os usuários que quiserem continuar com acesso ao Whatsapp precisam pagar uma taxa única de US$ 0,99, desvantagem frente a rivais como WeChat que disponibilizam todos os serviços gratuitos. Qual é o seu mensageiro favorito?
