O satélite tomará tons avermelhados em evento que ocorrerá poucas vezes neste século

A Lua de Sangue está de volta esta semana e poderá ser vista a olho nu em alguns países da América do Norte e Latina. Pela segunda vez neste ano (e última), o fenômeno poderá ser observado logo cedo desta quarta-feira, no chamado eclipse total.
No Brasil, por volta das 6 horas da manhã deste dia 8, as pessoas na região Norte e em parte do Mato Grosso do Sul poderão assistir ao fenômeno a olho nu. “Ao contrário dos eclipses solares, os lunares podem ser vistos sem proteção nos olhos”, explica o físico André Luís Parreira.
Para o físico, o fenômeno desta quarta-feira poderá ser uma verdadeira ‘Lua de Sangue’, com o satélite bastante avermelhado no ponto máximo do eclipse. “Pode se pensar que a Lua, que estará na sombra da Terra, ficará escura ou invisível. Mas isso não acontece porque a luz solar, em interação com a atmosfera, que se comporta como uma ‘lente’, se espalhará e os tons mais avermelhados se desviarão e atingirão a Lua”, explica o professor.
André lembra que as características da atmosfera, no momento em que ocorre o eclipse, interferem na intensidade do tom avermelhado que a Lua poderá atingir.
É o segundo fenômeno desse tipo em 2014, o primeiro foi em abril. Em 2015, serão mais dois eclipses lunares, completando a chamada “Tétrade”. “Existem poucos registros recentes desse acontecimento, o último foi em 2004, e só teremos mais duas Tétrades até o fim do século”, conta o professor Parreira.
O fenômeno volta a acontecer nos dias 4 de abril e 28 de setembro de 2015.
Quando acontecerá o eclipse?
O eclipse desta quarta-feira começará a fase parcial quando a lua entrar na “sombra” da Terra (também chamada de sombra umbra). Isso acontecerá por volta das 5h15 EDT (6h15 em Brasília). Depois, a sombra umbral percorre a superfície da Lua, da esquerda para a direita. Às 7h25, no horário de Brasília, o eclipse é total e a lua fica totalmente à sombra e aparece avermelhada.

Como acontece um eclipse?
O eclipse acontece quando um corpo no espaço provoca o escurecimento (ou sombra) em outro. “De forma muito simples, podemos pensar que a Lua, em determinadas ocasiões, pode se colocar entre o Sol e Terra. Ela impedirá a visão completa do Sol e, assim, teremos também um escurecimento de nosso dia – esse é o Eclipse Solar”, explica André, que ressalta ainda a existência dos eclipses lunares.
“A Terra pode fazer sombra na Lua. Como a Lua é visível por receber luz do Sol, quando a Terra encontra-se entre o Sol e a Lua, a iluminação da Lua fica reduzida, provocando efeitos bonitos, como sombras ou até mudança de cor”, encerra.
