O “Google X Lab” anunciou na última quinta-feira, 16, o protótipo de lentes
de contato que facilitarão o controle dos níveis de açúcar em pessoas com diabetes. O produto funcionaria através de um pequeno dispositivo conectado a um detector de glicose miniaturizado.
“Estamos testando lentes inteligentes fabricadas para medir a taxa de glicose nas lágrimas”, explicaram os responsáveis pelo projeto, Brian Otis e Babak Parviz.
Os testes clínicos estão em andamento, do mesmo modo que os procedimentos junto à agência de medicamentos dos EUA (FDA, sigla em inglês).
Nos modelos feitos para teste, as lentes conseguiram determinar nas lágrimas a glicose a cada segundo. Estudiosos analisam a possibilidade de integrar sinais luminosos para alertar sobre níveis perigosos de açúcar.
