O “Google lab” anunciou que desenvolveu lentes de contato que ajudarão pessoas com diabetes. Segundo a empresa, os protótipos das lentes são capazes de determinar o nível de glicose nas lágrimas a cada segundo.
“Estamos testando lentes inteligentes fabricadas para medir a taxa de glicose nas lágrimas”, explicaram os responsáveis pelo projeto, Brian Otis e Babak Parviz.
As lentes funcionam “utilizando um pequeno dispositivo conectado a um detector de glicose miniaturizado, que estão contidos em duas camadas do material com o qual são feitas as lentes de contato”, disseram eles.
Os testes clínicos estão em andamento, do mesmo modo que os procedimentos junto à agência de medicamentos dos EUA (FDA, sigla em inglês). Os pesquisadores analisam agora a possibilidade de integrar sinais luminosos para alertar sobre níveis perigosos.
