O Google X, laboratório que nos trouxe o Glass, carros autônomos e outros projetos que a empresa vê potencial, anunciou uma novidade empolgante nesta quinta-feira (16). Trata-se de uma lente de contato inteligente, com sensores integrados e circuitos. Mas isso não quer dizer que teremos o Google Glass em um formato diferente, o propósito das lentes é outro, porém não deixa de ser muito interessante.
Essas lentes estão sendo usadas para monitorar os níveis de glicose de pessoas com diabetes, dessa maneira é possível evitar várias complicações, como ataques cardíacos, problemas na visão, desmaios, entre outros problemas causados pela doença. A Google espera que essa seja uma maneira menos dolorosa para monitorar o nível de glicose em relação ao método tradicional que necessita furar o dedo várias vezes por dia.
As lentes possuem um minúsculo sensor de glicose e um chip wireless, localizados entre as duas camadas da lente, que fazem o monitoramento uma vez por segundo com base nas lágrimas, eles estão trabalhando para adicionar LEDs que acendam quando o nível de glicose ficar muito baixo ou muito alto, alertando a pessoa imediatamente.
Eles ainda estão trabalhando nos estágios iniciais do desenvolvimento das lentes e já estão conversando com o FDA, International Diabetes Federation e buscando parceiros para levar o dispositivo para o mercado.
Esse é certamente primeiro passo para tecnologias cada vez mais animadoras se tratando de saúde e quem sabe não possamos ter lentes como essa funcionando de uma maneira semelhante ao Google Glass, seria incrível.
