Você sabia que o Facebook tinha um aplicativo chamado “Poke” para o iOS? O app foi lançado em 2012 e, justamente por muitos ignorarem sua existência, ele foi “morto” nesta sexta-feira, 9, quando a empresa o removeu da App Store, juntamente com outro fracasso chamado “Facebook Camera”. Representantes da empresa confirmaram a remoção ao site The Verge.
O primeiro foi feito para ser um concorrente do Snapchat, permitindo o envio de mensagens para seus amigos. A diferença para o Messenger é que o conteúdo enviado (texto, áudio, vídeo ou imagens) se autodestruía em alguns segundos. No entanto, ele nunca conseguiu competir à altura até hoje. Já o segundo foi feito para enviar várias imagens ao mesmo tempo para a rede social, mas eventualmente ele foi incorporado ao app principal, perdendo sua utilidade.
Os dois apps desaparecem sem nem mesmo um post alertando sobre seu fim. O Poke, inclusive, teria sido desenvolvido como uma brincadeira em apenas 12 dias. Mesmo assim, ele serviu como um lembrete de como não basta ter engenheiros capazes para criar um app de sucesso e de como a empresa não conseguiu bater o Snapchat, que hoje é visto como uma das ameaças ao reinado do Facebook. Não por acaso, Mark Zuckerberg já teria oferecido US$ 3 bilhões pelo app.
Agora o Facebook promete mergulhar em seu Creative Labs, parte da empresa que irá desenvolver aplicativos que não necessariamente tenham ligação com a rede social. Para isso, eles parecem estar tentando apagar o que deu errado antes do bem-sucedido Paper.
