Patrick Jackson é bombeiro e também dá uns toques de programação. Juntando o conhecimento que tem dos dois mundos, o norte-americano está a desenvolver uma aplicação para os Google Glass com o objetivo de ajudar corporações de bombeiros em todo o mundo.
A aplicação na qual Patrick Jackson está a trabalhar permite que os bombeiros tenham acesso, em tempo real, às plantas de edifícios que estejam a arder, por exemplo. Desta forma podem ser escolhidas no momento rotas de fuga e atalhos para chegar a determinado ponto do edifício.
O mesmo software vai permitir ainda aceder a planos de desencarceração de veículos, bastando para isso vocalizar o modelo do carro. No mini-ecrã dos óculos aparecem depois os pontos que devem ser cortados pelos bombeiros para que a vítima possa ser retirada.
Rotas para locais de acidentes, informação sobre o tráfego das vias, posição de bocas de incêndio e notificações sobre chamadas de emergência são outras informações que vão ficar disponíveis na app. O projeto foi destacado na página do projeto Glass no Google+, sendo Patrick Jackson um dos atuais “exploradores” do gadget protótipo da empresa de Mountain View.
Recorde-se que em Portugal está a ser desenvolvido um conceito igual no conceito dos mapas de edifícios. O projeto TIMAP é uma plataforma colaborativa entre os detentores de imóveis e as forças de proteção: os clientes disponibilizam os planos de segurança online e os bombeiros podem aceder aos planos em caso de acidente ou sinistro.
